Short Story Competition 31st January 2011

SHORT STORY COMPETITION

Maryfield Writers’ Group is pleased to announce a Creative Writing Competition of Short Stories. There will be prizes for the winners and the judge may award Highly Commended Certificates

RULES OF ENTRY

The fee is £5.00 per entry. There is no limit on the number of entries competitors may send provided each one is accompanied by the correct entry fee. Cheques should be made payable to ‘NIRPOA’.

Competitors may be: serving and retired members of PSNI/RUC GC; Civilian Staff, and family members of serving, retired or deceased officers

Short stories must not exceed 2,500 words maximum and must be typed using double spacing. Submissions exceeding that length will be disqualified. The short story should commence with the sentence, “When he (she) returned the shadow of the church had turned and shortened.”

For postal entries, each short story should start on a separate sheet of paper. All work must be in English. Work may be on any subject or theme but should not have been previously published.

 

The author’s name must not appear on any work but should be entered on the application form or attached on a separate sheet of paper. Entries cannot be returned to contestants, so please keep a copy

 

Copyright remains with the author but the author agrees, as a condition of entry, that Re-Union and the Police Service Gazette will have unrestricted right to publish winning and highly commended stories.

 

Receipt of entries will only be acknowledged if accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

 

Entries that do not comply with the rules will be disqualified and entry fees will not be returned.

 

Results will be published in Re-Union and the Police Service Gazette
